# What Families Find When They Ask AI About Home Care

An audit of ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI across 12 questions families ask about home care.

AI is already answering families' home care questions. When an AI answer names a brand, it's almost always a national franchise. In this audit, local agencies didn't appear at all.

- **3**AI platforms tested
- **12**family search queries
- **0**local agencies named in 36 responses

Summary

## Key findings at a glance

1. **AI is already answering families' home care questions.** ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI all returned substantive answers to all 12 family queries.
2. **National brands dominate, but only on certain queries.** 25% of the 36 responses named a national brand, concentrated on comparison queries such as "best home care agencies in the US." The four early-research queries produced no brand mentions on any platform.
3. **Local agencies don't appear.** Not a single local or regional agency was named in any of the 36 responses.
4. **Most answers leave an opening.** The audit found that 92% of responses create an opening for local agencies. Most encourage families to search locally, ask questions and evaluate agencies on quality rather than brand name.

Finding 1

## AI is already answering families' home care questions

The key finding

All three platforms returned substantive responses to all 12 queries, from "My mom needs help at home. Where do I start?" to "How do I find a home care agency near me?" This isn't a future trend. Families are getting AI-generated answers about home care today.

What this means for your agency

AI answers are becoming one more place families research care before they ever call. If you're thinking about how families find you, AI search belongs on the list alongside Google, referrals and reviews.

Finding 2

## National home care brands dominate AI answers, but only on certain queries

The key finding

25% of all responses across platforms named a national brand (9 of 36). Brand mentions were concentrated on comparison queries: "Best home care agencies in the US," where ChatGPT named 5 brands and Claude named 8, and brand-versus-brand questions such as "Home Instead vs Comfort Keepers — which is better?"

Early research queries were brand-neutral. The four early-research questions, such as "What's the difference between home care and home health care?" and "How much does in-home care cost?", produced no brand mentions on any platform. Google AI named no national brands on any of the 12 queries.

What this means for your agency

National brands win the comparison questions because they have the content and citations AI draws on. The early questions are open to anyone who answers them well, and that's where local agencies can compete.

Finding 3

## Local home care agencies are not mentioned by any platform on any query

The key finding

Not a single local or regional agency appeared in any of the 36 responses, including "How do I find a home care agency near me?" The gap isn't about quality. It reflects which sources AI platforms have learned to cite from the content they've indexed.

What this means for your agency

Families asking AI for help aren't hearing your name, no matter how good your care is. Being visible here depends on having content AI can find and trust: clear answers to the questions families ask, and listings on the sources AI already cites.

Finding 4

## Most AI answers create an opening for local agencies

The key finding

Despite the brand mentions, the audit found that 92% of responses create an opening for local agencies. The large majority encourage families to search locally, ask questions, and evaluate agencies on quality rather than brand name. Every one of the 12 queries was judged a local opportunity.

What this means for your agency

AI is sending families back to look locally, but it isn't naming anyone when they do. The agencies that answer families' questions clearly on their own websites and earn citations from sources AI trusts are the ones best placed to fill that gap.

The data

## What AI said for each of the 12 queries

Number of national brands named in each response. A dash means no brands were named. No platform named a local agency on any query.

Your agency's next steps

## What to do with this

1. **This week: complete your Google Business Profile.** Google's AI draws on local search signals, so a fully completed profile with recent reviews is a sensible first step toward showing up in its answers.
2. **This month: answer families' questions on your website.** Every query in this audit is a content opportunity. Publish a cost FAQ page, a guide to what families should look for in a home care agency, and a local care resource page. This is the kind of content AI platforms cite when they trust a source.
3. **This quarter: get listed where AI already looks.** Medicare.gov and Care.com appeared in AI responses. Make sure your Care.com listing is complete and accurate, and if your agency is Medicare-certified, that your status is current and visible.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions

### Do AI tools like ChatGPT recommend home care agencies?

Sometimes, and mostly national brands. In a March 2026 audit of ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI across 12 family home care questions, 25% of the 36 responses named a national brand, mostly on comparison questions. No response named a local or regional agency.

### Which home care questions does AI answer without naming brands?

Early research questions. "My mom needs help at home. Where do I start?", "What's the difference between home care and home health care?", "How much does in-home care cost?" and "Signs your elderly parent needs a caregiver" produced no brand mentions on any of the three platforms.

### How can a home care agency show up in AI search?

Complete your Google Business Profile and keep earning recent reviews, publish clear answers to the questions families ask (such as cost, what to look for in an agency, and local care resources), and keep your listings accurate on sources AI already cites, such as Care.com.

Methodology

## How this research was done

In March 2026, RaisedCare asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI the same 12 home care queries, for 36 responses in total. The queries were grouped by stage: early research (4), comparison (4), decision (3) and one operator-facing query. For each response, RaisedCare recorded how many national brands were named, whether any local or regional agency was named, and whether the answer encouraged families to search locally and evaluate agencies on quality.

AI answers change over time and can vary between sessions, so these results describe what the platforms returned when the audit was run. RaisedCare runs this audit quarterly; this page covers the first edition, from March 2026.
